MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID FOR 300 NORTH
We're pleased to report that our Office Manager Katie Ashley is now qualified as a Mental Health First Aider, which is vital in enabling us to provide support to our internal team and also our candidates and clients in the Facilities Management and Construction sectors. As a recruitment company, we're dealing with people everyday, many of whom may need support. According to The Mental Health Foundation, 1 in 6.8 people are experiencing mental health problems in the workplace.
We asked Katie to tell us a little about the importance of becoming a mental health first aider;
'On the 7th and 8th of November, I attended the Two Day Adult Mental Health First Aid course in Leeds. On this course, I learned about how I can assist someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis covering a range of mental health issues.
Mental Health First Aid England aim to train 1 in 10 people to be First Aiders to tackle the ever-growing mental health crisis. Mental health issues account for almost 70 million days off sick per year with around 10 million adults experiencing a mental health issue each year. We therefore decided as a company that it was important to have someone in the organisation attend this course to increase our knowledge and support to those who may need it.
Following my attendance, I feel a lot more confident in my abilities to assist those with a mental health issue and hope that the presence of a Mental Health First Aider in the workplace provides staff and our clients with the comfort that there is support available should they need it. I will use my knowledge to help educate people on Mental Health issues and also reduce stigma. Whilst we have preventative measures in place in our workplace, such as a Wellbeing at Work policy, it is good to know that we now have the resources should anyone require more urgent assistance.'
Well done Katie, we're proud to add this important role to the business:
